Patriotic Mice
Dear Debbie and Bill,
These days, when American people are paying special attention to our patriotic symbols, I'd like to talk about our patriotic mice.
The factory has created several very special figurines over the years.
Limited to 2500 pieces, signed in full and numbered, LTD-4 Uncle Sammy was issued in 1988.
Two years later M-168 Stars & Stripes was introduced. The figurine of a little mousey in a red, white and blue uniform, holding American flag, and saluting, was well known by its common name "Fourth of July".
Different versions of Minute Mice were available over the years, representing the American Revolution. They are not wearing red, white and blue colors, but their patriotic meaning is more than obvious. The latest versions of Minute Mouse II and Red Coat II were introduced this year by Willy Petersen, and currently available at the Historic Houses of Concord, MA
In addition to these originally designed patriotic mouseys, some other pieces were also painted in red, white and blue colors, some with Stars and Stripes. Several month ago, One Mouse Band came out in two different "4th of July" colorations - red with white stripes and white with red stripes (both with blue stars.) Our beloved April Showers got the new outfit too (just for one month though) - white slicker with blue stars and a flag design on hat .
Also, there were many store special colors in red, white and blue.
Two WFF retailers, Whimsey Hollow and The Mole Hole in San Clemente, CA, are famous for their Americana series.
Whimsey Hollow had several specials over the years, done in red, white, and blue, and embellished with an American flag design:
Red, white and blue special colored pieces for The Mole Hole in San Clemente, CA are embellished with white stars, usually painted on a dark blue background:
Creative Hands also had several specials with patriotic designs:
Collectors Haven had Camping Out with white stars on a navy blue tent - Photo . Quilting Bea was done in two patterns for Cranberry Moose, in red dress with white stars on navy blue quilt - Photo at the Animation Alley site. And Curio Cabinet surprised all of us this year with their Double Delight in red overalls with both flag design on the front pocket , and a white star on navy blue pocket on back .
There are many other patriotic mouseys in our collections, and I have several too.
However, if someone asked me to choose the most patriotic mousey from my collection, it would be... a regular Zelda. A Glitter Girl, that people received for their donations to The Red Cross. And one of the most patriotic paintings for me would be that little mousey in pink, walking the web, issued by the factory to raise money for the victims. So, there is one thought I wanted to share with you. That not only a specific color makes a mousey patriotic, but the thoughts of people behind it. All collectors who donated their blood, time, money, and their precious mice; the factory and the retailers who continue raising money. We all stood together. And we will stand together to overcome the terrible human and economic damage, because nothing can ever break America's Spirit. We all are a single United Patriotic Nation, and we are unconquerable.
God bless America.
