About Kit Cropper Studios

by Warren Cropper

"We have been in the miniatures/collectibles business for over 20 years where Kit is very well known for her one-of-a-kind Cernit people and dressed animal figures. We began designing, molding and casting fantasy houses, vignettes and background scenes in 1994, our material of choice being hydrostone, the finest and hardest of all the gypsum compounds.

This early body of work we called "works of architectural fantasy" because it seemed to describe it best. After 10 years of designing cast pieces, I think it still accurately describes what we do. As a child, Kit was very much influenced by illustrations in the books she read. Artists and illustrators who have been an influence on her work include Jessie Wilcox Smith, Arthur Rackham, Maxfield Parrish, N.C. Wyeth, Trina Schart Hyman, Michael Hague, Scott Gustafson and James Christensen. She strives to give her work a "storybook" quality, a certain look that beckons the viewer to enter the scene and let their imagination take flight.

Our company consists of two employees: Kit, the designer, artist, sculptor and painter, and me, the mold builder, caster and web-designer. All of our work is made here in America at our studios in Trinidad, California - by us. The display bases are original designs by Kit, created for her own line of collectible figures. They are also ideal for other lines of collectible figurines such as Wee Forest Folk."
